Aunt Barbara's Blueberry Buckle

3/4 C sugar
1/4 C soft shortening
1 egg
1/2 C milk
2 C flour
2 t baking powder
1/2 t salt

at least 2 C fresh blueberries, preferably wild

Topping
1/2 C sugar
1/3 C flour
1/2 t cinnamon
1/4 C soft butter or magarine

Combine and blend the sugar, shortening, egg, milk, flour, baking powder and salt in a mixing bowl. Blend in the blueberries. Place the mixture in a cake pan, 8 inches square or so. Separately combine the Topping ingredients, and sprinkle them on top. Bake 45 - 50 minutes at 375.

The perfect reward for a few hours' conscientious blueberry picking in the mountains of New England ...
