- I'm on vacation for one more week, so thought I'd start 1995 with a
signature graphic: a Cyclic Cellular Automaton still frame showing wave
droplet nucleation and spiral formation in an array of 3/4 of a million
sites. The range, threshold and number of colors are chosen so as to
produce prototypical excitable medium behavior. In contrast to
Greenberg-Hastings dynamics there is no background (resting) state.
Rather, invariance of the dynamics with respect to rotations of the color
wheel gives rise to an intriguingly complex and colorful soup.
